Coaching FAQ
What is Executive Coaching?
Coaching is a process to support you in defining a path to realize your goals. You gain insight into your skills and strengths. Using your career and life experience, you will analyze those job, roles and situations in which you felt satisfaction and accomplishment. You will also assess those aspects of your jobs, roles or situations you found challenging or difficult. With this analysis in mind, you will set specific career goals to achieve over the course of the coaching relationship while developing skills and gaining awareness that will serve you for a lifetime.
Why seek a coach?
A coach provides a structured process along with encouragement, support, objectivity, and feedback that enables you to see your options clearly and make decisions and changes that are right for you.
We have worked with coaching clients for a variety of reasons:
- Managing the transition due to a promotion or change in roles.
- Determining strategies to handle politics in the work place;
- Building on and developing leadership competencies.
- Analyzing work-life balance in order to be most effective in both areas;
- Working effectively with Board and staff
- Exploring
How does the coaching start?
First, the client and coach meet and get to know each other. Since coaches and clients work together over an extended period, it’s important that the coach and client are comfortable with the approach and with each other. Once the decision is made to work together, the coach and client jointly develop an action plan and a process for the coaching engagement.
Clients may have completed leadership or personality style assessments which can be used during the coaching process, though it isn’t necessary to have done so. The coach will also suggest tools, assessments, reading and exercises.
How often do the coach and client meet?
The coach and client meet about once per month although, depending on what you’re working on, you and your coach may meet more or less frequently. Coaching sessions can be face-to-face or by telephone. Coaching sessions
typically last between one and two hours.
